Custom Book Formatting & Design

How We Work

Step 1

Every project begins with a personalized design consultation. Unlike many publishing services, we connect you directly with the designer who will be working on your book.

During this session, we discuss:

  • Your book’s message and target audience
  • Genre expectations and market positioning
  • Visual preferences and stylistic direction
  • Comparable titles for inspiration

Following the consultation, you will receive a structured creative brief summarizing the discussion. This includes a curated mood board featuring suggested fonts, color palettes, design elements, and visual inspiration aligned with your book’s theme.

Step 4

With the cover finalized, we begin the interior formatting process.

Your designer will prepare a sample layout of your manuscript to demonstrate:

  • Font selection and hierarchy
  • Chapter styling and spacing
  • Margins and page structure
  • Visual consistency with the cover design

Because interior aesthetics are influenced by the finalized cover (fonts, tone, and visual direction), this step follows cover completion. You will review and approve the sample before full formatting begins.

Step 2

Using insights from the consultation and creative brief, your designer will develop two distinct book cover concepts.

Each concept reflects:

  • The tone and message of your book
  • Your target readership
  • Current market design standards
  • The visual direction agreed upon in the briefing

You will review both concepts, select your preferred direction, and provide feedback to guide refinement.

Step 3

Once your selected concept is confirmed, the designer will incorporate your feedback and finalize the cover design.

At this stage:

  • Adjustments and refinements are completed
  • Final typography and layout are polished
  • Back cover elements are integrated (blurb, author bio, endorsements, barcode placement)

The result is a professional, publication-ready cover prepared for both print and digital platforms.

Step 5

After approval of the sample layout, we proceed with the complete typesetting of your manuscript.

This includes:

  • Formatting all chapters
  • Page numbering and headers
  • Table of contents layout
  • Consistent styling throughout
  • Print and/or digital distribution preparation

Once formatting is complete, you will receive the full interior files for review. This allows you to identify any remaining minor corrections now that the manuscript appears in its final book format. Most packages include a set number of formatting revisions to ensure accuracy and satisfaction.
